ELYA‘s purpose has always been to encourage members of all levels, from beginner to very experienced, to deepen their knowledge, practice and enjoyment of yoga.
We have done this by arranging day and half-day seminars around 4 times a year with guest tutors either local to Scotland or from further afield.
It is with great sadness that the decision was taken in 2017 to wind-up the association due to lack of volunteers for the committee and lack of attendees. No further seminars are due to take place.
Our philosophy was to promote the practice of yoga in the widest sense – postures (asana); breathing practices (pranayama); relaxation and meditation practices – skillfully woven together by our guest tutors to illustrate a theme that usually has an aspect of yoga philosophy at its heart.
As the latest newsletter explains (available on this page to the right), the Committee, very sadly, took the decision to dissolve ELYA following the AGM in February 2017 and subsequent communication with our members – we have been hanging on for 5 years now, struggling to recruit new volunteers to the Committee with numbers attending at seminars steadily declining. All of those on the Committee have done their very best to keep ELYA going and we are proud that we are one of the last remaining local associations in Scotland, most of the others having folded.
ELYA dates back to the mid-1970s, please see our History page for further information. It was run by volunteers who make up the Committee, willingly contributing their time for the benefit of our members. See the ELYA Committee page for details of the committee.
